About us

Gayle's Corner and Gayle's Garden

This is me - Kat, and my husband Barry who has been an immense help in setting up Gayle's Corner. Gayle's Corner and Gayle's Garden were born of a lifetime desire to serve and help others. I have a couple very special Gayles in my life, and this is where the name Gayle's Corner comes from. I have been caring for seniors and children since I left the medical field and electronic health record software in 2013.

I have often worked with families who prefer to take care of their loved ones themselves - but we all need respite and time to unwind. Perhaps just to hang out with friends or run needed errands, or take a day off.  We can also care for your senior while you work. It's important to have respite for emotional health. Because I really liked working with families in transition, I went back to school and obtained my Master's Degree in Counseling (Suma cum laude) from Liberty University, with undergraduate work in teaching and business. Let me share an adapted quote with you that further explains the ideas that underlie Gayle's Corner, borrowed from Washington Care Planning Council.

"Senior day services offer an ideal alternative to caregivers by providing a daytime care environment outside of the home. Here is a program where a loved one could be nurtured, stimulated and provided for and at the same time provide a welcome relief for the caregiver. It is baffling that such a valuable service goes largely underused by the public. Six hours a day of adult day services can be as low as 20% of the cost of bringing someone into the home to provide services for the same number of hours. And having a loved one in a protected and stimulating environment can afford necessary rest to overloaded caregivers."

We have a part-time nurse nurse, and trained caregivers and volunteers to help with care and transitions. With our oversight, your loved one will receive emotional attention and care in your absence.  If we see a greater need in your loved one, we are well equipped to connect you to many more services available to you in this community.
