Four Hours of Care
Service Description
Caregiver respite, or rest when caring for an elder, is incredibly important. Respite Care at Gayle's Corner provides temporary relief to primary caregivers. This allows caregivers to take necessary and dependable breaks. Having respite and regular time off reduces stress and prevents that incredible fatigue or even burnout that caregivers can face. The ongoing physical and emotional demands of caregiving are usually too big for one person. These periods of rest enable caregivers to maintain their own health and well-being, which ensures they can continue to provide compassionate and effective support to that loved one. Additionally, respite care offers elders opportunities for social engagement and interaction with others, which distinctly improves quality of life and impacts their successful aging. By prioritizing regular respite, caregivers create a sustainable environment where both they and the elders they support can thrive. It is baffling that such a valuable service goes largely underused by the public. Six hours a day of adult day services is often only about 20% of the cost of bringing someone into the home to provide services for the same number of hours. In addition, Gayle's corner has part-time on-site nursing, as well as social workers and counselors on call to provide aid for seniors in need of emotional attention. Sometimes senior respite care centers have had a difficult time surviving because of public apathy or the stigma associated with aging. Also, in many areas the services would be used but they are simply not available to families. This is where Gayle's Corner comes in for Yakima Valley. We are making these services available and affordable. Beginning next year Medicare may start paying for adult day care services in lieu of home health services! This may greatly expand the availability of this valuable service. At this time, our clients are private pay, but this year we hope to begin to receive Medicaid, DSHS, and Veteran's funds for our loved seniors.
